Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of a holistic approach in psychiatric nursing for patients with schizophrenia through the Systematic Literature Review method. Schizophrenia is a complex chronic mental disorder, which not only impacts the biological, but also psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of the patient. A holistic approach is seen as able to address this complexity through the incorporation of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy, spiritual support, and environmental modification. Literature search was conducted from various leading scientific databases by sift through 570 articles to the remaining 10 high-quality studies that were analyzed in depth. The results showed that interventions involving psychosocial and spiritual aspects, as well as patient-centered care, were able to improve cognitive function, medication adherence, and quality of life of patients, while lowering the recurrence rate. The holistic-existential nursing model also makes a great contribution to fostering meaningful therapeutic relationships, facilitating emotional and spiritual recovery. In addition, in cultural and religious contexts, the integration of Islamic values has been shown to strengthen the psychological resilience of patients. This study recommends the development of collaborative, patient-oriented psychiatric nursing practices across the board, so that this approach can be applied more broadly and systematically in mental health services.
