Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that is at risk of causing various complications, one of which is diabetic foot ulcers which are complex and require multidisciplinary treatment. This study is a systematic review that aims to examine the role of nurses in chronic wound management in patients with diabetes mellitus, with an emphasis on a holistic, educational, and collaborative approach. The literature was obtained through systematic searches in the PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect and Web of Science databases, with a rigorous selection process using the PRISMA Flow Diagram, resulting in 10 relevant studies. The results showed that nurse intervention contributed significantly to wound healing, glycemic control, and improved patient quality of life. The role of a nurse includes wound assessment, patient education, therapy monitoring, pain management, and psychosocial support. The study also highlights the importance of diabetes specialist nurses (DSNs) in improving care efficiency, reducing hospitalizations, and strengthening standards of practice. Multidisciplinary approaches and therapeutic innovations such as debridemen, HBOT, and nanomedicine have been shown to accelerate wound healing. In addition, prevention efforts through education and early detection have proven to be effective in reducing the incidence of diabetic foot complications. In conclusion, nurses play a central role in chronic wound management in diabetic patients, which demands a collaborative, evidence-based, and oriented approach to improving clinical outcomes and patient quality of life.
