Abstract

Preoperative anxiety is a common emotional response experienced by patients before undergoing surgical procedures and can have a negative impact on recovery, pain perception, and clinical outcomes. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of nursing interventions in reducing preoperative anxiety levels through a systematic literature review approach. The search was conducted on the PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science databases, using relevant keywords such as “preoperative anxiety” and “nursing intervention.” Of the 490 articles identified, only 10 articles met the inclusion criteria and were further analyzed. The review results showed that nursing interventions, such as preoperative education, nursing visits, relaxation techniques, therapeutic music, and aromatherapy, were effective in significantly reducing patient anxiety. The study also showed that non-pharmacological methods can be a safe and cost-effective alternative in managing preoperative anxiety. Additionally, personalized and patient-centered interventions were found to improve patients' self-control and accelerate postoperative recovery. These findings emphasize that the systematic integration of preoperative nursing interventions should be part of surgical care standards to enhance patients' quality of life and clinical outcomes. Therefore, nurses play a strategic role in designing interventions tailored to patients' characteristics and needs.
