Abstract

The purpose of this study is to systematically analyze the effect of giving exclusive Mother's Milk (ASI) on the physical growth and development of babies aged 0–24 months. The Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach is used to identify, evaluate, and synthesize scientific evidence from various relevant studies. Literature search was carried out through PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science databases, resulting in 540 initial articles. After removing duplicates and conducting strict screening based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, 10 final articles were obtained that were analyzed in depth.

The results of the synthesis showed that most studies found a significant positive relationship between exclusive breast milk and infant growth, which was measured through parameters of weight, body length, and head circumference. In addition to physical growth, exclusive breast milk is also proven to support the cognitive, motor, communication, and social-emotional development of children. Complete nutritional content, antibodies, and bioactive substances in breast milk play an important role in the formation of the nervous system and immune function.

Several studies also highlight the benefits of exclusive breast milk in reducing the risk of morbidity, including diarrhea and respiratory tract infections, while strengthening the emotional bond between mother and baby. However, variations in results related to physical growth were found, which may be influenced by other factors such as MP-ASI quality, maternal nutritional status, and environmental conditions.

Overall, this finding reinforces the importance of promoting exclusive breast milk as a preventive strategy and nutritional intervention to improve the quality of baby's health. The results of this research can also be a scientific basis for health workers and policy makers in designing programs that support the success of exclusive breastfeeding practices.
