Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of prenatal yoga on the quality of sleep for pregnant women through the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Sleep disorders often occur in the third trimester due to physiological and psychological changes, which can have a negative impact on the mother's health and fetal development. The literature search was conducted on the PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect databases using the keywords "prenatal yoga," "pregnancy," "sleep quality," and "maternal health." From the initial 744 articles, ten studies meet the inclusion criteria and are analyzed narratively. The results of the review showed that prenatal yoga consistently improved sleep quality, shown by a decrease in the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score and a significant p-value. Several studies also found that the combination of yoga with other interventions, such as dhikr and lavender aromatherapy, provides an additional effect in strengthening relaxation and comfort for pregnant women. The simple pranayama technique in yoga is proven to provide real benefits on sleep quality, even without a combination of other interventions. Physiologically, prenatal yoga helps improve blood circulation, relieve muscle tension, and stabilize breathing, while psychologically, yoga reduces stress, anxiety, and depression that can disturb sleep. This synthesis of evidence reinforces the understanding that prenatal yoga is an evidence-based non-pharmacological intervention that is safe, cheap, and easy to integrate into antenatal services and community education. This finding provides a scientific basis for health workers, policy makers, and prenatal facilitators to adopt yoga as an effective strategy to improve the quality of sleep in pregnant women.
