Abstract

Adherence to iron tablet consumption among pregnant women is an important aspect of anemia prevention during pregnancy. Adherence may be influenced by various factors, including knowledge, motivation, age, family support, and side effects. In midwifery care, appropriate information delivery and education are needed to help pregnant women understand the benefits and proper use of iron tablets and overcome barriers to their consumption. To describe adherence to iron tablet consumption among pregnant women and identify its implications for communication and education in midwifery practice at Anggrek Integrated Health Post in 2025. This study used a descriptive quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The subjects were 43 pregnant women who received antenatal care at Anggrek Integrated Health Post. The variables observed included adherence to iron tablet consumption, knowledge, age, motivation, family support, and side effects. Data were collected using a questionnaire. A total of 26 respondents (60.5%) were categorized as adherent, while 17 respondents (39.5%) were categorized as non-adherent to iron tablet consumption. A total of 25 respondents (58.1%) had good knowledge, 28 respondents (65.1%) had good motivation, and 26 respondents (60.5%) received family support. These findings indicate that adherence among pregnant women needs to be supported not only through information delivery but also through educational communication that strengthens understanding, motivation, and family support. Most pregnant women at Anggrek Integrated Health Post were adherent to iron tablet consumption. The findings have implications for midwifery practice, particularly in strengthening communication and education regarding the benefits and proper use of iron tablets, management of side effects, and the importance of family support in maintaining adherence among pregnant women.
